Have you ever heard of Kid President? He is one of my heroes. He was born Robby Novak in Tennessee in 2004, When he was just 9 years old, he and his adult brother-in-law made a YouTube video called Kid President. It's about tapping into the voices of children and really listening to what they have to say. Kid President became a sensation.

I found him by accident one day on Facebook. It was this Mother's Day video.

From there I just became a fan. I have used his videos in professional development courses I have taught, faculty meetings, with students, and just as a personal reminder of how precious our younger generation really is.

Oh, and what I learned about him later is that he has a rare brittle bone disease called osteogenesis imperfecta, which causes him to have physical challenges. You would NEVER know! This is one positive, upbeat kiddo. Here are a few of my favorite Kid President quotes:

"If you can't think of anything nice to say, you're not thinking hard enough."

"You can cry about it...or you can dance about it!"

"If it doesn't make the world better - don't do it."

"Open your heart more than your mouth."

"If at first you don't succeed...you're normal!"

You get the picture.

Today we need a pep talk more than ever. I invite you to watch this video with your family.

And now I invite you to go ahead and watch a bunch of Kid President videos with your family! Explore his website, http://kidpresident.com/, read up on him, and then try and create your own inspirational video. Here are some steps you might consider:

  • Write a script

  • Consider your "characters"

  • Think about the staging and/or scenery

  • Rehearse

  • Learn about editing a video (google this depending on your technlogy know-how and capabilities at home)

  • Create a YouTube channel (parents and guardians only please)

  • Share your creation!

Just a thought...

I'd like to leave you with another KP quote:

"You were made to be awesome."

Missing all of my Aborn Families.

Sending Virtual Hugs and Kisses,

Mrs. Spiess
